The Starfish is also known as Asteroidea. They usually reproduce by free-spawning. This is when they release gametes into the water to fertilize with other starfish gametes. To increase their chances of fertilization, starfish release their gametes while in groups or they can send a signal to each other when they are releasing the gametes. Once the egg is fertilized the eggs forms into a larvae. Eventually the settle to the bottom of the ocean floor and grow into adults. Another way starfish reproduce is by the male spawning gametes which fertilize eggs held by the females. The Females then hold onto the eggs until they hatch and are ready to grow. Another way a starfish can reproduce is fragmentation. This is the process of a piece of the starfish falling off the starfish and going on to grow as a new starfish
This picture shows how a piece of a starfish was fall off but grow into a new starfish.
