A Branching Anemone is also known as Lebrunia danae. Branching Anemones are hermaphrodites but act as one gender at a time. Fertilization may be external or the eggs may be fertilized inside the anemone. The eggs develop into free-swimming larvae that eventually swim to the ocean floor. Sea anemones are also able to reproduce asexually. They detach a portion of their body with then grows into a new anemone.
This picture shows asexual reproduction of a sea anemone by fission. Fission is a form of asexual reproduction where a parent separates into two or more identical individuals.
